Celebration of the memory of Saint Alfonse Liguori in Kovel’

Recently, Reverend Bishop Josaphat (Hovera), Exarch of Luts’k, took part in celebrations honoring the memory of Saint Alfonse Liguori, in the city of Kovel’. The Greek-Catholic community there has for many years worshiped at the Order of the Holiest Salvatore (redemptionist), the founder of which was Saint Alfonse. The monastery of Kovel’ is named after the newly proclaimed beatific Mykolay Charnetskyj.  At 10:00am, on the grounds of the monastery and church, Fr. Yevhen Zadorozhniy and the whole community of the city Kovel met with the bishop. After their mutual greetings, the Divine Liturgy began. As per his studies of the faithful, Bishop Josaphat commented that every founder of a monastic community is endowed with unique characteristics and gifts. Thus, Saint Alfonse was able to serve people, devoting himself fully to this service. He serves as an example not only for clericals and monks, but also for every believer. Making reference to an excerpt from the Gospel, which was read earlier during the Liturgy, the Bishop explained that Christ could have himself fed people who came to listen to him, however he requested apostles to do this so that they would be his “co-workers” in servitude. Through this example, we see that there is this mission in each of us, calling upon us to not be indifferent to the needs of our neighbors. Towards the end of the celebration, the abbot of the monastery Fr. Yevhen expressed his gratitude and wishes. Afterwards, a ceremonial walk around the church took place.
