Head of the UGCC about Holy Tradition: Even today we have the opportunity to see, hear and touch Jesus Christ

All the richness of the Christian life, our feasts, our Divine Liturgy are an opportunity to experience the events that the apostles went through. Christmas, Easter, and other great events of our liturgical year are the moments when we can truly hear, see, and even touch Jesus Christ present among us. This was emphasized by His Beatitude Sviatoslav in Saturday's video catechesis on the Holy Tradition.

The Head of the UGCC reminded that God is the first to reveal Himself to man. Man, in turn, by responding to God’s revelation with his faith, gets to know Him. And this knowledge of God takes place as a certain journey - in stages, in the context of the history of the relationship.

"Sacred Tradition is an opportunity to experience what the apostles experienced when they saw Jesus Christ present among them," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Head of the Church explained that the Sacred Tradition has its roots in the time of the apostles, who sought to pass on to future generations their experience of communion with God. St John the Theologian writes: "What we have seen and heard, we declare to you, so that you also may also have fellowship with us" (1 Jn 1: 3).

"The Apostle John seems to be saying: I invite you, dear believers, to experience the same thing that I experienced. We saw our Savior with our eyes - and you can see. We heard Him with our ears - and you can hear. For we want you to have fellowship with us,” His Beatitude explained.

Therefore, the Head of the Church emphasized that the events we hear about from the apostles can be experienced today.

"All the richness of the Christian life, our feasts, our Divine Liturgy are an opportunity to experience the events of which the apostle informs us. All Christian holidays — Christmas, Easter, and other great events of our liturgical year — are those moments when we can truly hear, see, and even touch the Jesus Christ present among us, who is the center of the Holy Tradition,” he said.

In conclusion, His Beatitude Sviatoslav invited everyone to open themselves to this opportunity to meet the Lord God.
